For everyone interested in old sewing machines, or sewing machines in general, I recommend this historic film document about the SINGER factory in Kilbowie, Clydebank (Scotland). At one time, it was the largest sewing machine manufacturing company in the world with many thousands of employees where all parts for the machines was produced "in house". The factory finally closed its doors in 1980 after almost 100 years of continuous production. It is worth looking at this rare and most interesting document of a past era and one can get an understanding why those machines, even after decades of neglect, can still be renovated to sew as perfectly as the day they were created. They were made to last in contrast to today's throw-away mentality. One can also see how incredibly hard those people worked! The quality of the film is not very good but, taking into account is was made around 1928-30 (my guess - it doesn't say), it is quite amazing.
