Antique straw braid sewing machine "DRESDENSIA B" still used today by straw hat makers throughout the world. The machine is in excellent working order and stitches the braid together with a chain stitch (no bobbin - upper thread only. It takes skill to become an expert operator. Included is the original instruction book (in German - this machine is of German manufacture and dates from around 1920). I am leaving the straw braid in the machine to show how the braid is placed: the stitching guide for the straw braid can be adjusted according to the width of the straw braid. There is a space for the underneath braid and another one for the top braid, separated by a metal barrier. One has to practice a bit to get the hang of it. I am also including a few meters of straw braid for practice.
Included is a package of 10 needles since "normal" sewing needles do not work and these are hard to find (they are available from this shop). The machine can be mounted with a belt to either a treadle stand or, even better, to a table with motor. There are a few videos in YouTube showing how the machine works. Go to YouTube and enter: straw braid machines. Very important: the hand wheel must always be turned clockwise, away from the operator. If you move the hand wheel towards the operator, you can damage the machine.
A belt is not supplied since the size is dependent on how you mount the machine.
This great little machine weighs only about 6 kilos and is about 29 cm high (with yarn holder) and 24 cm across.
