These embroidered cotton fabrics and motifs are something exceptional and unique nowadays. These are authentic embroideries done on a special “Hand Embroidery Machine”, the same used for the so-called Swiss hand embroidered laces, much sought after by collectors today.
Executing this style of embroidery on such a machine is time-consuming, laborious, requiring skill and years of experience to perfect. The machine consists of a row of many needles (similar to hand sewing needles) arranged side by side on a long arm, each of them threaded with its respective thread. The movement (stitches) of the needles is guided by an embroiderer, standing in front of a board with the relevant drawing depicting each and every stitch and operating a needle attached to the arm of a large pantograph. The embroiderer will trace each stitch on the board with the needle of the pantograph and this is then transferred to the sewing needles embroidering the pattern onto the fabric. Once a length of  thread is used up, the needle has to be rethreaded, as is usual for normal hand embroidery. The ends of the embroidery threads also have to be fastened off manually.
In other words, each needle moves one thread back and forth through the fabric and the embroidery does not consist of a top and a bottom thread, as is usual for all machine embroideries nowadays, so that there is no difference between this embroidery and  normal hand embroidery!
As far as I know there is only one person left who still supplies such embroideries, and this gentleman is of quite advanced age!
The embroideries are very limited and are something for doll makers and doll collectors who are looking for something special.
This specialized work takes a lot of time and is not inexpensive, so if you are looking for a discount-special, you will not find it here! However, if you are looking for something special, an heirloom in the making, then this is for you!
These wonderful embroideries are not just for doll lovers, but could be made into the most stunning christening gown or a child’s dress for a most special occasion!
The fabrics are cut so there are only complete pattern sets.  This could mean you receive either a little more or less than ordered (I suggest you do not take less than 1 meter - 50 cm is hardly enough to go around for a skirt). We will charge you for the exact amount of fabric received.
All hand embroidered items are limited quantity. The embroidery yarns are cotton throughout.
